San Diego

I drove down to San Diego over the extended weekend which was really fun.  Went out to dinner at a place called Islands which we don’t have here in the Bay Area on Saturday night.  Played some poker with M&M’s, peanuts, and raisins for a while and went to my hotel which ended up being overbooked so they gave my room away.  They put me at a nice place across town free of charge which ended up working out but I paid for it with lack of sleep as I didn’t get into my room until 1am.  On Sunday I went to a church that has to have one of the best views possible because it is up on a hill and all of the windows overlook the ocean.  I liked the pastor a lot and got quite a few things out of the sermon.  Sunday afternoon I drove around and saw a lot of beaches, a lot of ocean, a lot of towns I don’t remember the names of, Seaworld (the outside of it) and seals.  Legoland isn’t too too far from Seaworld and it looks like Tyler would love going there when he gets older.  Sunday night I ate downtown and got some ice cream (can’t go wrong with that).  Laura, they had the USS Midway docked downtown and I think you can take tours on it which made me think of you and Skyler.  By the time I got downtown it was dark so the pictures I took won’t do it justice.  On Monday I-5 closed through the grapevine so I had to take 101-N the entire way home which turned a 7 hour drive into an all day and night event.  Made it home safe this morning and had a great time.

Faith The Dog

This is a story about a dog who was born on Christmas Eve, 2002.  He was born with 3 legs – 2 healthy hind legs and 1 abnormal front leg which needed to be amputated.  He of course could not walk when he was born.  Even his mother did not want him.  He was rejected and scorned.

His first owner also did not think that he could survive.  Therefore , he was thinking of putting him to sleep.  At this time , his present owner Jude Stringfellow came into his life and wanted to take care of him.   She was determined to teach and train this dog to walk by  him self.  She thought , all we need is a little faith.  Therefore she named him ‘Faith.’

In the beginning , she put Faith on a surf board to let him feel the movements of the water.  Later she used peanut butter on a spoon as a lure and to reward  him for standing up and jumping around.  Even the other dogs at home helped to encourage him to walk.  Amazingly , after only 6 months , like a  miracle , Faith learned to balance on his 2 hind legs and jumped to move  forward.  After further training in the snow , he can now walk like a  human being.

Faith loves to walk around now.   No matter where he goes , he just  attracts all the people around him.  He is now becoming famous on the  international scene.  He has appeared in various newspapers and TV  shows.  There is even one book entitled ‘With a little faith’  being published about him.   He was even considered to appear in one of  Harry Potter movies.

His present owner Jude Stringfellow has given up her teaching job and plans to take him around the world to preach, ‘that even without a perfect body,  one can have a perfect soul.’

In life there are always undesirable things.  Perhaps a person who feels things are not going as well as they could will feel better if they change their point of view and see things from  another perspective.  Perhaps this message will bring fresh new ways of thinking to everyone.   Perhaps everyone can appreciate and be thankful for each beautiful day that follows.  Life is the continual demonstration of the power of thinking positive and having faith.  Believe in yourself.  Never lose faith.

Flora Restaurant in Oakland

flora2 flora1

Went to Flora tonight in Oakland for dinner with some friends.  If you go you have to get the caramel pudding, I know you are probably thinking the same thing I did…pudding for dessert?  I read the reviews of the restaurant on Yelp before going and everyone was raving about the pudding so I figured I’d give it a try.  It had sea salt and whipped cream on the top which made it incredible.  I completely agreed it is really good and is one of the best desserts I have had in a really long time.  OK the dinner was good too.  To give you an idea, they have sides of macaroni and cheese so how can you beat that!  My kind of place.  🙂
