Hi everyone, it looks like this post is getting a ton of interest which is great. I’m getting some good comments on the post and don’t forget to check out the rest of my posts while visiting (come back and visit me at jeremyperson.com). I was looking at all of my snake postings and found I have quite a few so if you enjoy this one check these out. @WilliamsJoseph tweeted this out and I thought it was pretty awesome. Can you imagine running into this thing?
“A massive python named Deliah was moved by Florida wildlife officials to a temporary home after her chain-link cage near Apopka, Fla., was deemed unsuitable on Friday. The 16-year-old python measures 18 feet long and weighs 400 pounds.” Source: http://news.aol.com/article/400-pound-python-delilah-seized-from

My ex husband as well as my daughter have both had snakes as pets. Unless you’ve had one its kind of hard to imagine owning one. However this snake was well taken care of. I think the owner should be given the chance to get the necessary paperwork and improvements to get his pet back. For snake lovers (which I’m a dog/cat person myself) snakes are very much pets. But there has to be common sense as well as responsibility in ownership of such a large potentially dangerous animal. I wish the best future for this animal as none of this is her fault. It was a very beautiful animal to be sure.

These animals should be banned in FL. For years these animals have been escaping from people’s homes, pet stores, zoos and sanctuaries. During hurricane Andrew & Wilma I saw many on these animals roaming free in local neighborhoods. They have been invading the everglades and decimating indigenous species. Iguanas, turtles, hogs, snakes, monkeys, etc already have a vast foothold in Florida. The local ecosystems are being destroyed. Don’t get me wrong I am all for the freedom of having exotic pets, but I believe they should remain out of areas where they have large non-indigenous populations and have become an invading species. This is coming from a long time FL resident.
