2020 Resolutions + a 2019 Year in Review
2019 Year in Review
Matcha, turmeric, and seltzers, oh my! Halfway through the year, I read about the anti-inflammatory benefits of matcha and turmeric and I have been hooked ever since. I take turmeric almost daily and matcha at least once a week. If you have a headache or if you are just trying to take better care of yourself, give one or both of them a try and see how you feel. Matcha, in particular, has a ton of purported benefits. I have to give James Beshara full credit for my discovery of matcha and turmeric as he discussed them extensively in his great podcast Below the Line. The other thing I have discovered and have since obsessed with in 2019 is Kroger® Fizz & Co. Root Beer Flavored Seltzer Water. I stopped drinking sodas about 6 years now cold turkey. I found for me to quit, I had to substitute sodas with something similar so I started drinking carbonated water instead. I'm not used to the sugars in soda so the flavored waters taste great and it almost tastes like one.
A lot of my time spent in 2019 was working on side projects. I attended and graduated from YC's Startup School. The project I created during the course is RemindBrain.com a website that "helps you become more happy, healthy, and successful by reminding you of the things you need to do." I attended weekly video sessions with other founders where we presented what we were working on, challenges we were having, as well as giving each other advice. I know for about two months straight there wasn't a night I didn't spend at least an hour on it. I received some great feedback and learned a lot of valuable takeaways as a result of attending. I learned the fear of embarrassment is a powerful motivator for me. I also created a few things like a simple countdown calculator for various things, a sticky notes app, a one-screen desktop-only Phaser.io game, and more.
2020 Resolutions
- I'd love to get another family trip scheduled. The Turks and Caicos Islands are calling to me. :)
- Create a failure resume
- Play around with Stripe
- Learn Laravel
- I've been drafting a Career Advice Book. A great goal for 2020 is to have a first draft created.
Some Favorite 2019 Tweets
Similar to blogging, I have been tweeting less and less every year (source) instead opting to work on side projects. Below are some of my tweets from 2019 you might enjoy in case you missed them.

Despite privacy concerns, upon seeing my kids constantly pose questions to the Echo at my in-laws, I bought one so they could do the same at our house. A good article on the value of "thinking grey." https://t.co/EzvUoNsdNs

I wrote my own bookmarklet years ago and have tens of thousands of saved articles and sites saved on my own server. However, for tabs you want to save and reopen later, this Chrome extension is great for that need. https://t.co/bZkZuTDhLc

I don't think @sivers knows how much his advice has transformed the world but I refer to his interview with @tferriss often when giving others advice. #HellYesOrNo pic.twitter.com/BvsYqZwmAY
