TED Talks: Do Schools Kill Creativity?
A TED talk about education and how we are teaching kids to grow out of creativity in school. The notes I took during watching the video is that:
- Communication is just as important as literacy to teach children
- Kids are not afraid of being wrong which lets them be more creative
- Kids will take a chance and if they don’t know something, they will take a go at it and they are not frightened of being wrong
- If you are not prepared to be wrong you won’t come up with anything original (love that quote)
- We don’t grow into creativity we grow out of it
- Schools of today were created in order to meet the needs for industrialism
- Women tend to be better at multi-tasking (thicker corpus colusum)
- The story about the girl who was born to dance at the end was great. Everyone just has to find their passion and what they were born to do
Evan Christmas Gift From Uncle MeMe
For Christmas one of my gifts to my nephew was an RC helicopter. I thought it actually flew but I guess that would be a little dangerous for a two-year-old (huh, go figure). Meanwhile, Tyler enjoys the simple things in life.
Kids Get A Wii For Christmas
You have to love the reaction from the kid in the middle. I was excited to get a Wii but geeze…
Won’t You Be My Neighbor?
For Christmas, my mom and dad got me “The World According to Mister Rogers: Important Things to Remember”. Kevin Rose just Tweeted about the video above.
“In 1969 the US Senate had a hearing on funding the newly developed Corporation for Public Broadcasting. The proposed endowment was $20 million, but President Nixon wanted it cut in half because of the spending going on in the Vietnam War. This is a video clip of the exchange between Mr. Rogers and Senator Pastore, head of the hearing. Senator Pastore starts out very abrasive and by the time Mr. Rogers is done talking, Senator Pastore’s inner child has heard Mr. Rogers and agreed with him. Enjoy”
